Atletico de Madrid lose to Real Madrid, become runners-up of UEFA Champions League

\The final of the 24th UEFA Champions League was held at San Siro in Milan, Italy, on the early morning of May 29. After 120 minutes the match finished 1-1, and the final result came down to penalty kicks. Atletico de Madrid lost 5-3 in the shootout to Real Madrid, and finished as runners-up.

Atletico de Madrid is regretted to become the first team edging up to the Champion League final yet missing the European Cup for 3 consecutive times.

Ramos had put Real Madrid ahead when he opened scoring in the first half. Just after the break, Fernando Torres gained a penalty for Atletico de Madrid, yet Griezmann drilled the penalty against the crossbar unfortunately. Atletico de Madrid grabbed their equaliser with one score by substitute Yannick Carrasco. Neither side could strike in extra time. The match ended in penalties which Atletico de Madrid lost with regrets.

This marks the second time rivalry in UEFA Champions League final for Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid since 2014. Along the way, Atletico de Madrid defeated Kazakhstan Champion Astana, Turkey Champion Galatasaray, Portuguese Champion Benfica, Netherlands Champion Eindhoven, Spain League Champion Barcelona and German League Champion Bayern München, making it a champion killer.

Even though missing the European Champion, Atletico de Madrid impressed people with its indomitable style shown in this glorious defeat.

In January, 2015, Wanda Group announced an investment of €45 million to acquire a 20% equity stake in Atlético de Madrid in a bid to promote China’s grassroots football development.
