February 22, 2016 saw the global launch of the English version of The Wanda Way, written by Wanda Group Chairman Wang Jianlin. The launch was held at the British Museum and is published by LID Publishing.

John Whittingdale, British Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Francis Maude, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Jin Xu, Minister Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Martin Liu, General Manager of LID Publishing, Wanda Group Chairman Wang Jianlin and other dignitaries attended the book launch.
LID publishing is the number one publisher in the world in business history and business dictionaries. Their titles have been translated into dozens of languages and have enormous global influence. The British Museum is one of the world’s top three museums, as well as the oldest and most diverse museum.
The Wanda Way is Wang Jianlin’s first book and details an authentic and eventful history of entrepreneurship, personal growth and the development of ideas. It is a window into Wanda Group and Wang Jianlin himself, touching on his way of life, doing business, and the transformation of his company.
The original Chinese version of The Wanda Way was released in January 2015, and has since been reprinted 15 times, selling over 610,000 copies and breaking the Chinese management book sales record, making its way to the top of the China bestseller list. In the past, the most popular enterprise management books came mainly from abroad, but The Wanda Way has shifted the status quo and highlights the increasing maturity of Chinese enterprise management philosophies.
The top 5 Chinese business schools - business schools in Tsinghua University, Peking University and Renmin University, and China Europe International Business School and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business - use The Wanda Way as their case study textbook. Furthermore, the English version has been endorsed by world-renowned institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard.
Chinese enterprises have been growing relentlessly for the past thirty years with more than 100 Chinese companies now in the Fortune 500, but management philosophies from China have rarely garnered global attention.
As a prime example of a successful international Chinese enterprise, Wanda’s development has attracted attention from around the world. Their acquisitions of AMC Entertainment and Swiss-based Infront Sports & Media were selected as case studies in Harvard Business School and the Chairman has met personally with the heads of many major Western nations. Wang Jianlin was invited to serve as Vice Chair of the Global Advisory Council at Harvard and has been invited to speak at many world-class academic institutions such as Harvard and Oxford. Wang Jianlin was invited to serve as Vice Chair of the Global Advisory Council at Harvard and has been invited to speak at many world-class academic institutions such as Harvard and Oxford. In 2014, US Magazine Foreign Policy named Wang Jianlin as one of its “Leading Global Thinkers” and changed the world’s perception of Chinese entrepreneurs by becoming internationally renowned.
The British media published an article linking Wanda’s rapid development and successful international efforts to the progress of the management of Chinese enterprises. Chinese culture lies at the heart of Chinese management, and the global release of The Wanda Way is not just an explanation of Chinese management philosophy; it expounds on Chinese culture, with the aim of garnering greater attention and a respect for Chinese culture around the world.
Harvard Business School Professor John A. Quelch wrote in his preface to The Wanda Way that Wang Jianlin has already become one of the great entrepreneurs of the early twenty-first century and that The Wanda Way offers the Western reader insights on several important topics: how to sustain an entrepreneurial spirit in an increasingly large organization; how to remain alert to competition, despite the risk of complacency flowing from success; how to repeatedly reinvent a company's strategy in the face of changing market forces, not once but four times; how to instill a culture of continuous improvement and innovation; how to embrace the opportunities of e-commerce and the digital world, while getting the timing right; and how to build the brand promise of Wanda at home and abroad.
“Management philosophies and methods from the past have been influenced by entrepreneurs and management experts from the US, Europe, and Japan,” said Wang Jianlin, “but in the future I hope to see more Chinese entrepreneurs and Chinese management philosophies leaving their mark on the world.”
